Skopje Architecture That Inspires Poetry
Workshop, October-November 2020, Skopje
'Skopje Architecture That Inspires Poetry' is an independent project of the poet and slammer Elena Prendjova and the architect Jane Stojanoski which represents a set of creative-educational workshops for drawing and creative writing through which a small group of high school students got acquainted with an important example of Skopje architecture and used it as an inspiration for writing poetry. The project intended to contribute to raising the awareness of young people about architecture and its importance as a scenography of human existence, ie as a silent witness to our lives. The focus of the project was the building of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Skopje due to its architectural value, strong connection with the collective memory of the city and its historical importance - one of the symbols of the reconstruction of Skopje after the 1963 earthquake. It is a building that on the one hand symbolizes world solidarity and is the embodiment of optimistic visions for the future of the city, and on the other hand with its location imposes itself as an exposed element of city views, as a modern cultural acropolis, while its architectural design is characterized by exceptional relations the environment, as well as a wealth of spatial experiences.
As a final result of the project, 15 postcards were made, each printed in 85 copies, on which selected sketches made during the visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art were presented, in combination with a selection of poetic works of the participants.
