Aerodrom District Centre Housing
Concept
LOCATION: Skopje, Macedonia
YEAR: 2010
PROGRAM: 27 affordable apartments of different sizes
SITE: Aerodrom Municipality district centre, dominantly a residential quarter, a complex in developement consisted of free standing apartment buildings
SOLUTION: Considering the absence of strong architectural references, the starting point for the design of the building represents the intention to avoid the north orientation of the apartments and opening towards south and the view of Vodno mountain. The U shaped plan enables natural light and ventilation in all the parts of the building, while the opening towards south is emphasized by continous balconiesand large glazed surfaces on the south, east and west facade, and almost blind north facade. The rationality is achieved by the use of 2 alternating typical floors.
