Lakeside Hotel
Concept
LOCATION: village of Dolno Konjsko, Lake Ohrid, Macedonia
YEAR: 2017
PROGRAM: 70 rooms five star resort hotel.
SITE: A degraded site at the shores of Lake Ohrid, between the Sveti Stefan tourist settlement and the village of Dolno Konjsko, approx. 5km from the town of Ohrid.
SOLUTION: With the qualities of the site in mind, the concept is developed along two axes: east-west, which is the main organisational axis of the site, connecting the road and the lake, and north-south, along which the building programme is organised. Due to the sloping terrain, the building is located at the site's highest elevation, near the road, making most of the rooms and communal spaces benefit from commanding views over the lake. This way, a green buffer zone between the building and the lake shore is created, which represents a pleasant garden for the guests and at the same time the lush greenery reduces the negative impact from the presence of a building on the valuable landscape. A simple white rendered horizontal volume was choosen to represent a clear contrast with the mountinous surroundings. The tripartite division clearly reflects the functional units of the building, while the double height lobby and the atrium provide a visual connection and spatial fluidity througout the levels of the building.
